The Other Side Of Midnight

My first words, ‘hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’

So this was my first book by Sidney Sheldon and I can assure you that all million and one fans of Sidney Sheldon are absolutely not kidding. Sidney Sheldon has been dubbed as ‘the master of the unexpected’ in literary circles. You would never believe after reading The Other Side Of Midnight that this book was merely his second book.

The plot revolves around two women : Noelle Page and Catherine Alexander.

Noelle, was born in a French town and lived a dream life with a loving family until the Nazis invaded their country. Catherine, on the other hand, was born to a middle class but highly ambitious salesman.

While Noelle, with awestruck beauty , was finding her place in the world and had men  fighting to be with her, Catherine was topping her classes and had no romantic life.

When Noelle runs away to Paris, her vulnerable self is saved by an American war hero , Larry Douglas, who she falls head over heels in love with. She was about to marry him when she finds out that the love of her life is a Casanova and had ditched her. So begins her plan for vengeance against the one man she loved and who ruined her life, which she gets six years later.

Catherine, at this point in life , is working for William Frazer, who she later has her first romance with . After a while, she bumps into a rather arrogant and pestering man, yes Larry Doughlas , who she falls in love with and they get married.

Meanwhile, Noelle meets a French director, who plays a huge role in making Noelle a French actress, and bring her in the eye of every single person all over the world. When she hears about the change in Larry’s status, she lands up with a powerful Greek tycoon, Constantin Demris , who is well known as the second richest man in the world and has outnumbered every enemy in his life. Although he is married, he has had mistresses, but none became as important to him as Noelle did, rather like he preferred her over his wife. Because of the deliberate situation created by Noelle, using Demris, Larry ends up working as a pilot for Demris and hence, Noelle. Although , it does not go as Noelle expected and Larry did not recognize her.

Okay, I did find that a little weird because no matter how many people you’ve been with, you were with this person for a while, you lived with her and said you would marry her, even though you didn’t mean it , you remember people! It’s not like its been years and the memory is blur. But moving forward..

This is the part where Noelle’s plan takes place, and although I’d die to write about it, I don’t want to ruin the suspense for all the people who haven’t read the book. If you though this part was interesting, you won’t even imagine what happens later. I also hope that this will make you run and grab the book to complete the ending.

I loved this book. The minute details blew my mind away.  It even gave me so much more intel in the olden times, things that I didn’t even know. Like the fact, that basically every married man has a mistress. What? That goes against all romance book rules! But by the end of the book, it personally gave me a gist of how personal life in those days used to be.

The fact that there is a movie adapted from this book , is just the cherry on top.

Final thoughts, where is my next Sidney Sheldon book?

SONG FOR THE BOOK :- Ugly Love by Griffin Peterson

So I thought long and hard for a suitable song and could not come up with one. But then I’m listening to my music and this song comes up , right away I can just feel that this song fits the plot perfectly although its not a normal , sweet romance book. Its dark and twisted and shows the ugly side of love, the one you don’t come across easily.

Secondly, this song is a personal track song for Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover but personally , it feels rather deep to me, I love this song, it makes me want to cry in a good way.
