The movie is set in a post apocalyptic period, following aliens that now live on the earth and hunt by sound.
Following this family of four who have to live without making any sound, we are left wondering in the starting minutes what’s going on and why they are signing to each other. Even though we realise the premise later, the movie still only focuses on this one portion of their life without giving us any background on them or the apocalypse which was such a new concept but the mystery only added to the essence of the story.
The movie is silent for the most part , with occasional noises and background music which just so effortlessly manages to create an eerie and suspenseful atmosphere in the theatre- so much so that people legitimately hesitated while eating popcorn or opening food packets. It was scary to talk like ‘oh damn am I going to be attacked now?’
Emily’s acting is just mind blowing, she’s phenomenal at what she does. Her character is strong and bold and extremely courageous. Her and John’s chemistry definitely burst through in those occasional romantic scenes and the fact that they’re a couple off screen today just fills my heart with warmth.
I absolutely adored John’s character- he is protective of his family , he’s loving and selfless and sharp. I’ve also found a new found respect for John knowing that he himself co-wrote, directed and acted in this money and somehow managed to make it this wonderful. The details are so intricate and every small thing has been thought for.
I’m not the biggest fan of monsters- ghosts and human thrills I can believe but alien things aren’t too much my thing and yet I was completely taken in by the story. To add to it, not only is it a terrifying thriller, the movie also highlights the love in a family and how a parent would do utmost anything to keep their children safe , and it breaks my heart and fills it with warmth at the same time. This is a concept which you don’t see highlights much in horror so kudos to John.
I’m sure you’ve already heard this a million times everywhere by now- but if you haven’t and you haven’t watch this movie, you freaking need to.
If you have, what are your thoughts on it? Did it make you cry? Because I was bawling so much I couldn’t see through my specks. That’s when you know a movie is awesome you guys.
