Crying in Movies

So, I’m an emotional person and I get attached and sad and emotional in the split of a second.

It doesn’t take me long to cry in general, so crying when I see someone else cry is easy but when I see someone else crying and there’s a sad background music playing? A minute and there’s tears flowing down my face to my neck and onto my lap. And trust me you guys, some Bollywood background music is brutal.

Anyway, for a long time, I used to be so embarrassed of the fact that I cried in almost all movies and I would do all kinds of weird stuff to hold it in- especially in theatres. But I’ve lately come to realise that there’s absolutely nothing wrong in crying in movies.

I think it’s so freaking beautiful and magical how a film can make you feel so much – to the point that you’re hiccuping and sobbing. That someone else’s story can touch you so much and get you so involved.

So, I’ve stopped trying to hide it, doesn’t mean I don’t get funny looks , sometimes stupid even but their loss, there’s something relieving and freeing. I know it’s the crying which makes you feel that in general but I enjoy being so involved in the story that I don’t even realise how much into it I am.

This post has come after spending an hour of a three hour movie by Karan Johar (honestly if y’all are into Bollywood, his movies are gonna break you) crying .

Am I crazy? Do you cry in movies too? What do you think?

  1. I’m a heartless monster that rarely cries. Add to the fact that I only tend to watch kids movies or comedies in theaters, and I have never cried in a movie theater. And I can only think of one movie off the top of my head that’s made me cry in general!

  2. This one is really hilarious. Once, the movie Taare Zameen par was being screened in school last year for our psychology class. I was the only one who did not remember the movie and I ended up crying THE ENTIRE TIME after the “maa” song! You’re right! Bollywood music is brutal. My entire class laughed at me for crying so much for such an old movie which all of us had watched before…..
I’m gonna be “the girl who cried throughout the movie” for the rest of my life 😂😂

  3. I definitely tear up at movies in the theater, and I’m not ashamed of it. I can’t remember the last time I fully cried during a movie. Most recently, I know I teared up during Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Christopher Robin, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

  4. Personally I do not cry at movies unless I am extra hormonal or the situation hits too close to home – that said, I think there is nothing wrong with some healthy emotional reaction to someone’s art 🙂
